About: Carlisle Events
Carlisle Events in Carlisle, PACarlisle Productions was the first company in the United States organized specifically to conduct and promote events for the collector car and truck hobby.

A need for these expansive events became obvious to two men in the mid-1970s. Until that time, the only cars deemed worthy to collect were Brass Era machines - carriage cars with beautifully crafted brass parts and fittings – made between 1890 to 1915.

Prior to Carlisle's emergence, anyone interested in restoring or showing his or her 1950s or 1960s-era car had very few options. That all changed when two unrelated Central Pennsylvania men who shared the same last name; Chip Miller and Bill Miller Jr., became friends through their mutual interest in cars of the 1950s. Together they began going to car shows and 'swap meets,' where like-minded individuals would hunt for parts and accessories to restore their vehicles.

'Most of those events were put on by clubs, and all the work was done by volunteers,' Bill Miller says. 'I remember waiting in line half-an-hour just to get a soda, and most of the places where the shows were held never had enough food, telephones or restrooms. And I always wondered why the clubs didn’t treat their vendors better, because I knew there wouldn’t be any show without them.'

On September 26, 1974, on the rented Carlisle Fairgrounds, 'Post War ’74' took place, the very first collector car event promoted by the company which came to be known as Carlisle Productions. In a year still remembered for gas lines and inflation, 'the world’s number one promoter of collector car events' came into existence. Just under 600 vendors set up in over 800 10 foot by 30 foot spaces that weekend, and some 13,000 spectators paid the $1 admission to sample their wares.

Within a few years, the Carlisle Fairgrounds had become a Mecca for collector car enthusiasts all over the world. The runaway success of what became known as Fall Carlisle led to a similar spring event in 1977. In short order, they became complete sellouts for vendor and car sale (or 'car corral') spaces. In 1981, after renting the fairgrounds for each event, the Millers purchased the property, which then totaled 70 acres. Subsequent acquisitions brought its total to the current 82 acres.

With enduring faith in the collector car hobby, Carlisle Productions has tailored the Carlisle Fairgrounds to suit the needs of car show participants and visitors alike. Continuous improvements include paved roads, a manicured landscape, permanent buildings and a new electrical system throughout the facility. At the same time Carlisle Productions established specialty shows for Corvettes, Chrysler, Ford and GM products, as well as imports, trucks, sport compact cars and their associated products.

These car shows continue to evolve over the years and are truly world-class events which set the standard by which others are judged. See for yourself, come to Carlisle and share in the tradition and reputation of the nation's first name in collector car and truck events.
