About: Terror Behind the Walls
Terror Behind the Walls in Philadelphia, PAThe massive Eastern State Penitentiary - a gothic, castle-like structure in Philadelphia's Fairmount neighborhood - was once the most famous prison in the world. With stark towers and soaring fortress walls, Eastern State was designed to intimidate. It was home to such frightening characters as Al Capone and the flamboyant bank robber, `Slick` Willie Sutton, but stands today in ruin, a lost world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. This is the home of the nationally renowned haunted attraction Terror Behind the Walls, ranked 6th best haunted house in the United States by AOL.

With the addition Intake, a huge new attraction for 2005, the event now has five separate haunted houses within the 11-acre complex. The other attractions are Maximum Security, 13 Rooms, The Experiment (in 3-D!), and Tunnel Escape. Designed to be high-startle and low-gore, Terror Behind the Walls includes Hollywood-quality special effects and lighting, digital sound, animatronic creatures, and custom props.

All five haunted attractions are included in the admission price. Advanced ticket sales begin on September 12 at TicketMaster outlets, by phone at (215) 336-2000, or online at www.TicketMaster.com. Tickets will also be available at the door on each evening of the event. Reservations are highly recommended for weekends in October.

Now in its 15th season, Terror Behind the Walls is one of the nation's largest and best-known haunted attractions. HauntFreaks.com named the event `The Best Professional Haunted House,` and The New York Times described Eastern State Penitentiary as `perfect for Halloween.`

All proceeds from Terror Behind the Walls benefit the preservation of Eastern State Penitentiary, a National Historic Landmark. The haunted attraction does not affect operation of the historic site, which remains open for daytime tours eight months a year. For more information, the public can visit the penitentiary's website at: www.EasternState.org or call 888-763-NITE.
